Living other people's life

Living other people's life more than your own life... Where I need to go? What I need to learn? What I need to experience? Can I experience it with other people or have I go alone for my journey? What is my real purpose of my travelling?

Listening other's people stories rather than making your own stories. Do you really need to share your stories with everybody? Do you really need to know travel plan of every travel buddy who you are going to meet? Are you going to keep your original idea/purpose of your journey or can you change your mind quickly because of talk or advise of some other traveler?

Travelling is an process to discover who you are… :] or who you want to be in future.. :] so that's an great opportunity, don't miss it.. my dear co-traveller ']

Thailand trip

Bangkok

My travel to Bangkok began very funny from its beginning. I forgot my laptop charger at my friends place from couchsurfing, so feel really lost for a moment… How can I get a new laptop charger and where? Would will I have enough money for a new one.. How I can survive without my laptop etc. :]
Then my flight to Bangkok from Medan with Air Asia got late, so I hope my friends can somehow deliver it, but no way :{ At Medan aeroport there was not so many food to buy for lunch and as our plane was delayed, our stomache more and more hungry and body more and more tired..
At plane I met one boy from Bangkok and one Indonesian girl from Medan which went for 3 day trip to Bangkok, her first time, so we decided took a bus no. 29 from aeroport Don Mueang {DMK] together to reach Bangkok centre. Travel by this bus was like a disaster for our empty stomache, my friend Juvita had not eaten neither that day and we got more exhausted because of traffic jam in Bangkok and our bus was fully crowded, no space for luggage and no a\c…. imagine :] My plan was to go directly to my friend's place near central train station Hualampong but it seems to be too far in the traffic and really tough with one bag with 15 kg and second bag with 6 kg and some more small bags around.. So I told Juvita I would like to go by taxi to my friends place but it would be quite expensive for one person and also my friend not come home yet and I would have to wait for here 2 more hours…  Juvita offered me that I can go first to her hotel to stay with her in her room, we can share taxi and I can go to my friends place next day… I said: Ok, good idea, better travel together than alone {Indonesian style :D].
But when we reach hotel Nasa, they told us that they cancelated Juvita reservation because she had reserved her room one day before our arrival but they did not tell her anything and did not inform her about it.. also they offer her just double prize expensive room, because it is always cheaper to book this hotel on booking.com than at reception desk in this hotel…  But fortunately, there is always a solution, at reception desk there was a Russian girl which seems to have similar problem, hotel refused her credit card, so she had to pay this double prize, so Juvita asked me to speak to her, like European to European :X and I asked if she would like to share a room and a prize and she agreed, so it has happended that first night in Bangkok it was 3 of us, and nobody of us expect our meeting, but destiny happended :D that we meet together at that hotel… :] Then we went together discover city by boat, by taxi, by foot, sharing our life stories. Then we found some nice dress for me and make some great photos in new dresses X

Third day of our meeting, I was first who had plan to go out of Bangkok. It was hard to leave each other, but anyway, we will remember it long.. So I headed by train to Chiang Mai, Kathrina from Russia - teacher of spontaneous dancer headed to Phuket and our sweet little friend from Indonesia had to come back next day to Medan...

Chiang Mai. Day 1

What a beautiful land. Silence of buddhistic temple and its garden. Riding bicycle inside the historical square of Chiang Mai. Buddhistic temple: home of Buddha, home of silence and Spirit.

I stay in silence at one place and nobody come and ask me anything, feel free of answering any kind of question. Before I did not appreciate it so much as now, to respect people privacy and people silence..

Chiang Mai. Day 2

Riding my bicycle through historical centre of Chiang Mai, which is square surrounded by water channel. Feeling tired after all travelling, wanted to return to my quest house to take a rest, but so funny what happended, just met my friend from Japan riding his bicycle in opposite direction *** Actually first time we met few weeks ago in Lake Maninjau and speak about our travel plans and our plans were so same, just my friend arrived everywhere 3 days before me.... and so on... but here we are. Just met today on that road, spending whole afternoon together.. seems like an new visitor came to my planet to visit me up there :D ***

Indonesian national sport is not a badminton;)

Indonesian national sport is not a badminton, as you may hear from media, but in my opinion and maybe in the opinion of many other traveller, is an activity named hunting Bule. Who is this Bule?

I found 2 interesting links about this topic. On wikipedia, there is an explanation of the word term and on second link, there is more opinion from foreigner themselves {from Bule:D] and it is put to the contextual situation.

There is a fine explanation of bule word meaning on wikipedia. "Bule is usually used for foreigners with white "albino" skin, so there can be Bule Arab, Bule Afrika, but commonly used is just the word bule. Nowadays also the word Mister is used, consider to be more polite by foreigner. Conversation start like this:
Look! A bule." Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bule

Don't Call Me bule!  There is also a forum about how foreigner people feel about this word.

In my opinion or feeling to point somebody Bule every day, and yes it happends every day, just make division between them and us, it points out on this difference. Secondly, many foreigner and I am one of them do not feel comfortable with this "nickname", of course it depends on who says that and in which situation, and of course how often per day you may hear it.. That`s why I wrote in the introduction about new national sport named hunting Bule. This sport depends a lot on the location, as in Indonesia there is many differencies and on some islands, in some provinces there are more skillful hunters than in other location :D Especially Minangkabau culture where I used to live 3 months with its centre in Padang, this hunting game is strongly developed ;) Surely it depends with strong Minangkabau culture connected with Islamic tradition from Middle-East, coming to West Sumatra by sea through Palembang. This culture is extremely closed to any influence from outside and stubbornly conservative in its tradition coming from islam tradition, which enter to West Sumatra province from the port in Palembang. Minangkabau people in history sell the products of their land to other nations by the sea, that`s how the islam from Middle-East found its way to root itself among Minangkabau people who absorb islam into their already settled minangkabau tradition. That`s way there are 2 strong social organization, first is islam from middle-east and secondly it is the minangkabau tradition. So Minangkabau seems to be like a greenhouse which itself can manage how much of sunlight it will allow to enter to this greenhouse, how much of air it will allow... That`s just an example of how i feel about this culture openness to foreigners. Sometimes foreigners can feel to be some kind of entertainment for local with that their screaming: Look! A bule, following by looking what is Bule person is doing, what is Bule want, if Bule goes to right or left.... Sometimes even happend that children or even teenage girls hunting bule to take photo with them or to practise few english words they know and i can say ok, it is understable, even it is not so pleasant if happend every, every day. But there is another situation which i can hardly understand, why its are adult people who hunt bule to speak to them and to hunt bule to take photo with them or screaming to Bule? Then I would ask, even adult people can not control their curiosity, that`s what it is happening? The best funny example are police men, which seems to not really care about safety sitution but their most work is to scream at Bule: Hello Bule, how are you? Where are you going?? :D

And of course, majority of tourists would get rid of this situation and unwanted social interactions with local people. Who would feel comfortable with somebody screaming on him/her just because of different colour of the skin? Different country of origin? Is this humanity, to be a man to man, to be a human to human beings? This all depends on individual skills to adapt oneself to different culture, to take it easy, to take it as a joke, as a fun, be happy that somebody makes this effort to scream all over, to watch you so intensively for so long... to accept it how is it, accept is as a part of culture, do not take anything personally, do not offense oneself. So then there are foreigner "bule" which leave after few day or few weeks, happy to be back home in their culture they know, then they are foreigner which taste the culture, i like it or not, which sauce is the best and then they are people who stays several years. You can call them winner somehow - people who have already live in Indonesia several years, because they have already get over this very difficult process of getting visa, find a propriate job for them in Indonesia, usually their private business or working for foreigner company and so many of culture obstacles.... But in Indonesia, i think one can never been a "culture winner". Because as a foreigner with different color of skin etc., you can not be never fully accepted and integrated into the indonesian society .Because even the foreigner live on one place already many years {as I know from one foreigner story], let`s say 7 years for example, his neighbours and vendors nearby of his house still after this 7 years of living with them scream at him Bule.....!!!!! ******

The life of one rice cooker

:(an comparative study of 2 rice cookers, first rice cooker is currenty living in Asia, second one in Europe:)

European rice cooker feel so useless, because nobody wants him. European rice cooker is very expensive compare to Asian one and has to wait long in the shelves of shops to get somebody house, finally when rice cooker gets to somebody house, nobody really cares about him, just time to time there is time to cook rice, but people does not take many rice, as they prefere more bread :XD
While Asian rice cooker has no privacy, always some people around him, always there is some family members around. The best moment for Asian rice cooker is his dinner time because all family take its rice from him and rice cooker very happy. Ohhhh, my sweet family, do you want to have more rice? But one day Asian rice cooker had dream and in this dream saw european rice cooker in France and european rice cooker almost always on holiday, did not have to work so much, worked just very rarely and was always in good company of fresh fresh bread and sweet italian espresso. Then Asian rice cooker was not so happy at dinner time any more, because he wanted to travel more, to see the world ,to be on a holiday. He tries to speak to his family, but nobody understand him, because Asian rice cooker can not go on holiday, he has to work, his work, his pleasure, but Asian rice cooker can not be happy like this, because of his dream about European rice cooker, so he set up to discover world and to meet his european rice cooker friend, as he believe to his dream, as he believe this european rice cooker exist and maybe they can go together on holiday, maybe they can work together, so there will be less of work for both of them.... :XD :XD but first he has to escape from his family, to discover his own way....

This story is dedicated to all Indonesian youngers which need to discover their own path in life, while it can be sometimes difficult for their families to understand.... i hope this story encourage you to continue... :D :D

No more water, got flu and cute goat*

Today in the morning i felt quite bad, because i got some flu and headache and just not feeling all right.. And also no water is running already second day so we are currently without any water for shower, washing-up and toilet, we only have *thanks God* water for drinking...

So i stayed at my room whole morning and noon, resting and waiting to feel better. At afternoon i persuaded myself to go at university to sort out my castellano lessons at Language centre at university... and what a nice surprise was awaiting me in front our house :] First i did not know whether it is a sheep or a small dog, but finally realized it is a small, cute and friendly goat.... Definitely my new friend here. Then this goat make friendship with our cat {picture 3] and then this goat with her/his elder companion continued to search better grass in neighbourhood...

*or another plastic bags?* As there is unfortunately rubbish everywhere all around and all animals come and you can see how they are searching food, usually eat this food with plastic bag itself... :{ Even "paradise" like Indonesia has its not so presentable sides.

Picture 2
Picture 3

Our courtyard. The goats just leaving for some other plants. The true is all animals stopped by our courtyard and eat our rubbish, especially the are in love with plastic bags :{ :{

My new room * Padang * Sumatera

Long time no blogging.... no taping words, ideas... now i write about present then continue with past travel in Malaysia and maybe finish with ideas about future.. and about Indonesia and Sumatra, of course :D

Freshly installed mosquito net to my room :-]

Before it was also good {but now one level better, haha :P]. You can see my room {without mosquito net] how looked like before on these photos :]

Left side: room with ambal {indonesian carpet used in every household in living rooms]
Middle photo: kitchen.. now much more food and things to cook..
Right side: Rest room, Shower room, universal cleaning room...

.... and here is a picture stories how i love a rice cooker... haha... such a useful invention. With rice cooker, everyday there is "nasi putih" - soft white rice and sometimes we put some chilli indide haha, or tofu or we cook egg omelette in it as you can see on right side.. so that`s why i love my rice cooker, because without rice cooker i would eat just "boring" potatoes, tofu and tomatoes without no rice and without no chilli... no true Padang people would eat it! :D

Moments of Brasil

These photos are taken on Faith Pilgrimage Route to Aparecida (in portuguese Caminho da fe) in Brasil, especially from our 2-3 days foot trip from Săo Sebastiăo da Grama to Águas da Prata, it should be about 34 km according official map but I would guess it was more.. :) Here is the link with a map of Caminho da fe - map

It was quite hard track in strong Brasilian sun, we were surrounded by coffee plantation, by green hills, by cows and horses, and we have not met almost anybody.. it seems to be a real Brasilian countryside :) On the right side, there is a photo of an abandoned house, you can find many other houses as this, but not all of them lost its owners forever, so it is not easy to find out which one is ready just for you to move in :D

These butterflies did a very pleasant company to us around Águas da Prata, where we climbed up and down hidden waterfall in jungle, but it was really worst to climb there...:)

Taizé

Few days before I went to Taizé, the heaven opened their door and windows...:))

So I was thinking, thinking about "say a little prayer" :D with Aretha Franklin...

It is very hard to write something about Taize, because I am in love in Taize :D I mean I do not need to be there every day of a year, but I am really happy for this place that it is open for everybody

GRANADA

Granada - have so much to share about Granada and so hard to express it by words. For it, at first I put this song of SPANISH GUITAR to catch the atmosphere of South Spain, especially from Granada. ;-)

I came to Granada at night, passed 3 hrs in train, travelling from Sevilla. I was there to visit my old friend whom I met in Galicia in summer, so everything goes much more easier when you know some local people but to Granada I went for first time and had no contact, so it was really "a virgin travel" for me :D I decided to stay at Residencia Ziri as I was looking for some cute, safe and enough calm place to stay and do some studies as well. This room in Residencia Ziri (C/ Cardenal Mendoza, 4) was marvelous and fulfilled all my needs and expectations. There was everything you need and the balcony opened you a view on never ending story: what is going on on street. Here are some pics to you could get some imagination how is was ;) One room for 1 person costs right 20 euros.

Calle Cardenal Mendoza where Residencia Ziri took its place ;-)

The breath of night atmosphere with view on wooden blinds ;-)

I was in Granada just after Festival of Three Kings on beginning of January, so even in Granada it was cold, so central heating was needed. Actually Granada is quite cool (in meaning cold;-) even in the summer or let;s say cooler than in Sevilla and other parts of Andalusia because of mountains Sierra Nevada. Among others, there is well known Mulhacén, which has 3478 metres above sea level. I really do appreciate this location of mountains because they are really near to Granada. And I took a day trip by foot from Residencia Ziri straight to the mountains which are situated behind Alhambra complex ;-) I put some photos from this foot trip. I found really nice places, for example "cave flats", Maroccan tea house and at the end of day so powerful sunset... :

"Welcome in my living room": say the house on right side ;)
Trying local "sisha" as the only customer invited by very kind Maroccan owner before regular opening hours ;-)
The Mirror in Maroccan "tea house" in Granada. I recommend you to visit this place. It is on the left side of Alhambra if you walk there from city centre on main road ;)

Firstly climb up to have such a view. In almost every new place I used to climb up the nearest hill juts to see the city I am in from up, it gives up another perspective to see all human swarm from distance and then you return into it already changed ;-)

Have you ever heard about "cave people" from Granada?  Me not, but I was really amazed by these caves, so at first I was thinking that maybe some seasonal workers live like that because accommodation is quite expensive in Spain generally. But then my friends from Palautordera told me that it is quite an opposite that living in cave is much more expensive than living somewhere else because it is kind of speciality and it began to be lucrative and even you need to pay it (i do not know whom:-), to pay monthly rent to live there, funny this world... Let;s see some pics:

The "cave houses" are well done as you can see on this window ;)

On the other side, where I walked, there were another cave flats ;)

Continue walking on foot all around, found this stuff:

Playing with morning dew ;-)
Walking on this nice EARTH, just counting how many shadows have already passed ;-)
Old Sun dial ;-)
SIERRA NEVADA

And on the end of - my ONE DAY foot journey - I got such unbelievable surprise from heaven. ;-)
